The Process Street Blog: Our Greatest Business Blog Posts (Ever!)

business blog

For over half a decade now, the team at Process Street has been creating stellar content so that businesses around the world can become the best they can be.

In terms of numbers, that’s nearly 1,000 on-site business blog posts we’ve published!

Considering this vast swathe of content, there may be a few times where, if you’re a veteran reader, you’ve missed posts that would’ve been high-value resources for your business.

Similarly, if you’re a new visitor (welcome, by the way! ) you may not be sure where to get started.

That’s why we’ve created this roundup post of our greatest business blog posts. To boot, the posts have been categorized into separate sections so you can find relevant content quickly:

Now, let’s learn a thing or two.

What business content can you expect from the Process Street blog?

Before we jump into our greatest posts, let me swiftly explain to any newcomers what the Process Street app is.

Simply put, Process Street is superpowered checklists.

Our business software enables you to document workflows, processes, and procedures via templates. Out of those templates you can launch checklists, ensuring your recurring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively, all while human error is kept at bay.

Pretty cool, huh?

To learn more about the amazing things you can do and create with the Process Street app, check out the webinar below.

What’s just as great as the Process Street app?

The Process Street business blog.

Let me explain why. (In a totally unbiased way.)

The Process Street blog started publishing content back in 2013 and put out informative, interesting, and eye-catching content from the get-go. Check out our very first blog post How a Checklist Saved Boeing from Bankruptcy and Helped Win World War II!

Since then we’ve developed our content strategy and bolstered our content team numbers all so we can bring you, dear reader, quality content day after day.

We really do mean day after day, too: We publish at least three articles per week. Often more.

But what are those three (or more) articles concerning?

There aren’t hard-and-fast rules regarding what we write about. As we work under an agile methodology, the content we bring you changes month-by-month and year-by-year as the business landscape naturally changes.

However, there are topics that we do discuss regularly because they never go out of fashion.

I’m talking about useful subject matters such as automation, processes, checklists, marketing, and business management – the subjects that’ll help you and your team, as the ancient proverb goes, work harder, better, faster, and stronger.

The posts you’ll find in these sections are what we deem to be our greatest posts – that’s to say, the posts know to be of greatest use to our readers.

Now, let’s delve into the Process Street business blog archive, shall we?

Business blog posts: Automation

At Process Street, we’re big fans of automation.

We time-save, labor-save, cost-save… so why wouldn’t we be head over heels for automation?

We believe that you should be able to reap the above rewards, too.

That’s why we’ve consolidated several of our blog posts on automation to create our super-useful, all-in-one eBook The Ultimate Guide to Business Process Automation.

As the “Who is this guide for?” section states:

If you’re not using automation, this guide is for you. Your team is wasting valuable time on tasks that could be handed off to a machine.

If you’re aware of automation but don’t know where to start, this guide is for you. In it, you’ll learn how to apply automation to real business cases and see results straight away.

If you’re automating some tasks but know you could do more. This guide takes a comprehensive look at the different kinds of automation you can implement, from the basic to the complex.”Process Street, The Ultimate Guide to Business Process Automation

To coincide with the reading of our eBook, check out content editor Ben Mulholland’s post What is Digital Process Automation? The Essential BPM Evolution, which provides the low-down on automation and process automation:

“Digital process automation is one in a long list of terms that seems like jargon until you realise just how vital it is to running a successful team.

It’s all about getting rid of the work you shouldn’t have to do.

If you haven’t discovered it for yourself yet, there’s a great deal of overlap regarding productivity and automation.

Ben Mulholland discusses this – and provides a massive list of Zapier automation ideas – in 222 Zaps to Crush Your Current Process Automation:

“When I first started using zaps to sort out my work life, I was, frankly, crap. Nevertheless, I stuck with it, and today I’m saving (at least) an hour a day, along with some serious worrying about minor tasks.

The turning point for me? Seeing examples of premade zaps.

[…] So, in order to help you all along to your automation dreams, we here at Process Street have collected together 222 premade zaps to show you exactly what you can do with a powerhouse like Zapier.”Ben Mulholland, 222 Zaps to Crush Your Current Process Automation

Business blog posts: Case studies

We love helping businesses become better. After all, that’s why we created our state-of-the-art BPM software!

From time-to-time, we like to present business case studies to show you how Process Street is making a day-to-day difference in how businesses operate.

Alex Gallia – who created many of our property management templates – presents the following case study from Alarca Realty:

“Alarca Realty is a property management firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina, specializing in the full-service management of family homes, condominiums, townhouses, duplexes, and small multi-family developments.

We spoke with owner and CEO Bob Abbott to discuss how Alarca uses Process Street to improve the management and execution of property management workflows that keep their growing business running smoothly.”Alex Gallia, How Alarca Realty Replaced Spreadsheets with Process Street to Streamline Property Management

Business blog posts: ISO and quality management ⚠️

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent body that develops and publishes standards.

But what are these “standards”, exactly?

Basically, they’re guidelines, specifications, or requirements for businesses and organizations to abide by. These standards make sure that products, processes, and procedures are carried out properly and safely.

The ISO has both business’ and consumers’ best interests at heart.

Now, the world of ISO can often be tricky to get to grips with. There’s a ton of information to understand, plus new acronyms, and a fair few numbered codes that make ISO even more daunting to tackle.

However, we’ve made ISO standards easy to understand.

Start with Adam Henshall’s brilliant post on CGMP – Current Good Manufacturing Practices – titled What is CGMP? Current Good Manufacturing Practices and How to Use Them.

As Adam explains at the beginning of the post:

“If you’re manufacturing food, drinks, or medicine, you know you have a sea of regulations and standards which you need to hit and adhere to.

You knew that starting out.

But it does leave you with two questions:

What are the regulations and standards that I should adhere to?

How do I get my organization to run in an effective manner so that we consistently adhere?”Adam Henshall, What is CGMP? Current Good Manufacturing Practices and How to Use Them

By reading through the CGMP post, you’ll get to grips good manufacturing practices and ISO.

If you’re wanting to improve your knowledge of quality management, look at What is ISO 9000? The Beginner’s Guide to Quality Management System Standards (Free ISO 9001 QMS Template).

In 2018, Apple rolled out their brand new iPad Pro; top-of-the-line, cutting-edge, very slightly bent- wait, slightly bent?

Customers on social media and several on the MacRumors forums have discovered their iPad Pros exhibited this slight bend straight out of the box.

[…] Obviously, and for whatever reason, there is a problem somewhere in Apple’s quality management process.

[…] In this article, I’ll be looking at the ISO 9000 family of quality management standards, breaking down the basics and giving you a few free checklist templates to get you started with your own quality management system.”Oliver Peterson, What is ISO 9000? If you’re more interested in bettering your business’ risk management (an activity which, for any business, should be a priority), Oliver Peterson has written The Ultimate Risk Management Guide: Everything You Need to Know.

It’s the one-stop post for understanding risk management, and then implementing real change, as explained here:

“What’s the worst that could happen? Risk management is one of the first things you should be thinking about when planning for pretty much anything in your business.

The truth is, risk inescapable; success of your business is not determined by your ability to avoid risk, rather by your ability to accept, plan for, and take advantage of the varying outcomes risk might present to you.

It might sound negative, but risk management is actually more optimistic than it seems.

[…] There are lots of ways to approach and prepare for risk, and this article will give you the tools you need to master risk management.”Oliver Peterson, The Ultimate Risk Management Guide: Everything You Need to Know

Business blog posts: Marketing ‍

To say that marketing is massively integral to business is no revolutionary, unheard of statement.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

Considering that there are nearly a quarter of a million marketing managers in the U.S. – not to mention the others who work as part of a marketing team, or those outside the States – there’s a huge amount of people working in marketing roles.

We want to provide you with the tools and latest know-how to ensure that your business’ marketing efforts are above-par, not sub-par.

To do this, we’ve written post after post relating to marketing (you can see them all by clicking here), but you’ll find the best of our marketing content below.

First off, we have a post by Thom James Carter (that’s me!) titled How to Gain Customers and Influence People with Digital Storytelling.

As I say in the introduction, marketing is all about being a good storyteller:

“Storytelling.

It’s a medium nearly as old as time itself.

From the visual scribblings made over 30,000 years ago by our cavemen cousins to the 18th-century fairy tales about dwarves, goblins, ghouls and demons made popular by the Brothers Grimm, the human need for stories runs deep.

Luckily for us living in the 21st century, we have the digital and technological means to bolster the stories we tell in unprecedented ways.

And from a marketing standpoint, digital storytelling is something of a holy grail; with it, businesses can gain, engage, connect, influence, and retain customers.

So, if you’re on a quest to learn about digital storytelling and how to incorporate it into your marketing plans, you’ve come to the right place, adventurer.”Thom James Carter, How to Gain Customers and Influence People with Digital Storytelling

This post tells you everything you need to know about not only about being an out-of-this-world storyteller, but being an out-of-this-world marketer, too.

The above article on digital storytelling is, at its heart, about audience engagement.

But what is audience engagement, why does it matter, and how is audience engagement measured?

Find out in Ben Mulholland’s post Audience Engagement: How to Know If People Like You.

“How do you know that your audience likes what you’re doing? Are they interested in what you’re saying and getting involved in the ways that you want them to be?

To know that, you need to be tracking your audience engagement. To help you do that, we here at Process Street have broken down the what, how, and why of audience engagement in this post.”Ben Mulholland, Audience Engagement: How to Know If People Like You

Business blog posts: Management and organizational theory

A successful business is one that’s managed properly.

While the above statement is true, managing a business is far easier said than done.

That’s why many of our posts have been written to not only help you understand the science behind effective management and organization, but also to provide you with the tools to facilitate change.

Now, let’s take a look at some of our greatest – and most useful – posts on management and organizational theory!

At most companies, there’s a select few at the helm of managing and leading their teams. But as Ben Mulholland says in Behavioral Theory of Leadership: How to Be a Better Leader, not all leaders can lead.

Or rather, they don’t know how to lead yet:

“That’s why today I’ll show you the 10 main schools of thought for the behavioral theory of leadership.

By the end of this post, you’ll be able to identify what kind of leader you are, what kind of leader you want to be, and how to bridge that gap through your behavior.”Ben Mulholland, Behavioral Theory of Leadership: How to Be a Better Leader

Although this next piece was only published in November ’19, Oliver Peterson’s piece Secrets of the Cabal: Half-Life’s Organizational Management & Other Agile Tales quickly became one of our greatest hits.

In it, Oliver talks about one of the most lauded video games ever – Half-Life – and how, without proper organizational management, the game wouldn’t have been released at all, let alone it being the monumental success it became.

“From humble beginnings as a simple clone of the then-popular first-person shooter Quake, Half-Life would eventually become the first installment of one of the most successful video game series of all time.

Today, Valve Inc. is one of the most renowned, innovative, and successful game development companies worldwide.

[…] Specifically, the development of the original Half-Life makes for an interesting case-study, and represents a model of innovative agile organizational management.”Oliver Peterson, Secrets of the Cabal: Half-Life’s Organizational Management & Other Agile Tales

Keeping with the theme of looking to the past to see how contemporary organizations can go about management properly, another of our greatest posts is Ben Brandall’s How Was Linux Created? The Processes Behind Managing 13,500 Developers.

Business blog posts: Property management

As mentioned earlier, property management is a topic we discuss often.

That’s because a whole host of property management companies use the Process Street app to make property management, well, easier!

So, on top of providing our users with superpowered checklists and templates, we also want to aid them in their journey to success with valuable, well-written content.

One of our most most read posts on property management is The Ultimate Guide to Workflow Software Integration in Property Management.

In it, Alex Gallia tackles the need for digital transformation in property management, and then provides software solutions for those wanting to revolutionize their property management processes.

As he says in the “What to expect from this article” section:

“In this post, we’re going to be diving into how you can transform the execution of core business processes by integrating simple yet powerful software with your existing property management toolset.

I’ll break down the role of workflows software in improving productivity, address key areas for process optimization, and provide a practical guide to getting started with Process Street including a variety of pre-made workflow templates to get you started right away.”Alex Gallia, The Ultimate Guide to Workflow Software Integration in Property Management

“[…] The tremendous amount of investment in real estate software and process automation over the past handful of years is changing the game for good, and those working in the industry are looking to get the most out of it.

How you can go about “getting the most out of it” is a question we’ll be addressing in this post.”Alex Gallia, Lease Renewal Process: Why it’s Important and How to Manage it More Effectively

Business blog posts: Sustainable business

Businesses are becoming more sustainable.

This is largely due to a social and environmental consciousness; a want to have sustainable practices so that the business in question isn’t contributing negatively to our environment, or helping to deplete the Earth’s natural resources.

But did you know that being a sustainable business also brings a ton of business and financial advantages to the fore?

This is a subject matter Jane Courtnell has explored at length.

The starting point for those interested in becoming a sustainable business is Jane’s post How You Can Create a Sustainable Business For Long-Term Success.

As Jane writes in the introduction:

84% of business executives recognize the importance of adopting a sustainable business. Academics, such as the environmental economist Robert Mendelsohn, agree that sustainability is key:

“We can’t afford not to be sustainable.” – Robert Mendelsohn, Can we afford sustainability?

At Process Street we also recognize the increasing priority adopting a sustainable business model should have.

In this article, we explain what a sustainable business is, why it is important, how it can benefit your business in both the short and long term, and how you can implement sustainable actions into your business. At the end of the post, we provide you with templates that act as aids to make your common business processes more sustainable.”Jane Courtnell, How You Can Create a Sustainable Business For Long-Term Success

Here, Jane links environmental sustainability with financial sustainability:

“In this article, we at Process Street explore what is meant by economic sustainability. We look at the benefits economic sustainability can bring on a global level and at a business level. We suggest ways you can become economically sustainable in your business today.”Jane Courtnell, Economic Sustainability For Success: What It Is And How To Implement It

For those who’ve been inspired by the above posts and want to apply what they’ve learned to their own business, check out GRI standards templates, featured in the article GRI Standards for Sustainability Reporting: What They Are and Why They Matter.

After all, the GRI standards templates – and the advice featured in this article – will undeniably help you in our sustainability efforts, as Jane explains:

“[…] There is a strong, unbreakable tie between our environment, society, and the economy. It is with this undeniable relationship, that GRI Standards reporting came about.

GRI Standards will help you produce a sustainability report, and by doing so, you are taking a huge leap towards securing business sustainability and cooking up long-term corporate success.

In this article, I will explain why GRI Standards reporting is important, what GRI Standards are, and how you can implement GRI Standards for the production of your sustainability report today.

Business blog posts: Productivity

In the blogging world, writing about productivity is a saturated market. You have every blog writer and their cousin screaming that if you only followed their 3745 ways of being productive, you’ll resemble Bradley Cooper in the film Limitless.

At Process Street, we cut the nonsense. We only write about what we know, from a tried-and-tested standpoint, works.

For instance, we know that todo lists benefit a lot of people. That’s why software maestro Ben Brandall discusses which todo list software to choose from in How to Make a To-Do List to Power up Your Productivity:

“Selecting a task management app is mostly a matter of personal taste and use case. Some tools are better suited for Getting Things Done. Some are Kanban tools suited for Agile, and others are extremely simple — great for personal tasks where you keep the information and resources separately. Here are some quick recommendations.”Ben Brandall, How to Make a To-Do List to Power up Your Productivity

Similarly, in Bullet Journal Ideas to Create Routines for Work and Life, content editor Adam Henshall wrote about how making a bullet journal bolstered his productivity:

“I’ve been bullet journaling for a while now and I want to share with you how I’ve used bullet journals to create order and structure in regular life and, in particular, in my professional life!

You see, I write about how businesses can better organize themselves and how to make sure the work which is being done is at a high standard every time.

In short, I write normally about something called business process management.

And it occurred to me that I could pull together everything I know about processes and my experiences with bullet journals to really accelerate my work.

I realized I could use my bullet journal to discover my most important repeatable processes, and then use the principles of business process management to improve how I approach these processes.”Adam Henshall, Bullet Journal Ideas to Create Routines for Work and Life

Oliver Peterson – who has a background in music – discusses the impact of sound and how it relates to productivity, among other techniques, in 42 Productivity Hacks to Work Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger:

“You’ll often hear people recommending music as a productivity booster. In reality, it depends on what exactly you’re listening to.

In my experience, my focus decreases in correlation with the complexity of what I’m listening to. The more I’m drawn into the sounds of the music, the further away I drift from the work at hand, especially if the music has vocals.

By far the biggest success I’ve had with using music (or more generally, sound) to increase productivity is listening to very simple, long, repetitive pieces. At the extreme, and what works best for me personally, is quite simply the sound of static noise. I believe this works as a kind of “substitute for silence”, by essentially blocking out all other sounds and prevents my mind from wandering.”Oliver Peterson, 42 Productivity Hacks to Work Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Business blog posts: Tools and tech

As you might have noticed from our articles, we’re not one of those companies that shy away from mentioning other pieces of software, tech, tools or products.

In fact, we do the opposite.

If there’s a game-changing tool out there that we can’t stop using or talking about, we think it’s only fair that our community gets in on the action, too.

That’s why, in this penultimate section, you’ll find a selection of our greatest, most useful articles about readily-available tools and tech.

To kick things off, here’s Adam Henshall’s post 36 Workflow Apps to Save You From Data Entry Hell.

This listicle provides a wide-ranging selection of workflow apps. Considering that there are nearly 40 suggested apps, you’ll surely find one that’ll suit your needs down to the T.

Next up is another post that showcases supremely useful tools: 9 Task Automation Tools You Should Be Using.

As Adam explains in the piece’s introduction:

“According to Harvard Business Review, marketing executives are losing 10-15% of their time due to not automating simple tasks.

Task automation should already be saving you huge amounts of time and effort.

If it’s not, I can only assume that’s because you’re not using it!”Adam Henshall, 9 Task Automation Tools You Should Be Using

Business blog posts: Just for fun!

Although our blog is business-orientated, that doesn’t mean we don’t have a little fun from time to time with our posts.

In this final section, we’ll show you a small collection of our greatest creative posts to date.

Now, let’s take a look!

Any post that starts with the words “Big George” is going to be pretty special, especially when it’s in reference to the philosopher George Santayana.

In 9 Time Tested Business Lessons From Greek Philosophers, Adam Henshall turns back the clock and transports us to ancient Greece.

Why?

Because as Big George said:

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”George Santayana, The Life of Reason: The Phases of Human Progress

From a business perspective, this means looking back at what our forebearers told us, so mistakes are avoided and progress is made.

As Adam explains further:

“In business, as in life, someone has already come before you and done the same thing. These people have failed, learned, and then improved. We, in the future, are in the fortunate position of being able to learn from their failures and successes if we choose to.

In this Process Street article, we’re going to ancient Greece to check out 9 key philosophers and see what business lessons we can take from their lives and work.”Adam Henshall, 9 Time Tested Business Lessons From Greek Philosophers

We all know politics was turbulent in ancient Greece, yet it’s just as turbulent in the modern-day.

That’s why, in this mini-series, Adam looks at politics and its relation to big data, marketing, and business.

Specifically, in How Social Media and Big Data Shaped the Brexit Campaign Strategy, he focuses on Brexit’s political marketing campaigns, which were, from the get-go, turbocharged by social media and big data.

Similarly, advanced marketing techniques, advertising, social media, and big data were explored in the post What Marketers Can Learn from Trump About The Science of Persuasion:

“Recent elections have hogged the headlines due to their rhetoric and their politics.

However, one consistent theme across both the Trump victory and the Brexit success was their use of advanced marketing techniques.

The recent victories were not merely political successes, but demonstrations of the immense potential of advanced marketing and advertising methods.

[…] The world of marketing is changing. Don’t get left behind.”Adam Henshall, What Marketers Can Learn from Trump About The Science of Persuasion

Moving on from politics to Shaq O’Neal, have you read our CEO Vinay Patankar’s post What a Dairy Farmer Can Teach @Shaq about Free Throws?

If you’re new to the Process Street community, you may not have come across it as went live back in 2016.

But it’s one of our blog’s best posts to date.

After all, it concerns Shaq, Steph Curry, a ridiculously talented dairy farmer, and how, ultimately, process makes perfect – what’s not to like?
