{"id":6960,"date":"2023-07-27T08:00:33","date_gmt":"2023-07-27T08:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/ai-math-operator\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T13:37:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T13:37:07","slug":"ai-math-operator","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/ai-math-operator\/","title":{"rendered":"AI Math Operator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a fast-paced environment where math calculations are integral to your process, you do not want to be slowed down by looking for calculators or relying on third-party tools.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/\">Process Street<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/ai-tasks\/\">AI Task<\/a> does that work for you, performing math operations in the blink of an eye.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Users: In order to create or edit workflows you must be an Administrator or a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/what-is-a-full-member\/\">Builder<\/a> who has been given \u2018edit\u2019 access by your Administrator.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whether you\u2019re creating a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/what-is-a-workflow\/\">workflow<\/a> or working with an existing one, you can add AI tasks to calculate your results for you.<\/p>\n<h2>Preparations in your workflow<\/h2>\n<p>Create or edit your workflow and add <a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/\">form fields<\/a> to collect information like the number of seats, price per seat, discounted price, and more. This data can be used to set up your AI task.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16233\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ai-math-workflow.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can use these form fields as input in your AI tasks, as long as you use digits to type your numbers, like \u201810\u2018. AI task does not accept numbers written in words like \u2018ten\u2019.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#number-field\">Number field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#short-text-field\">Short text field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#long-text-field\">Long text field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#dropdown-field\">Dropdown field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#hidden-field\">Hidden field<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Adding an AI task<\/h2>\n<p>Next, navigate to the task after which you want to add the AI task and click on the <strong>+ button<\/strong> at the end of your task list. Select <strong>AI Task<\/strong> then select <strong>Math<\/strong> from the category dropdown, as shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16235\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ai-math-create-task.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select a form field as input value or manually enter a number. Choose to add to, subtract from, multiply, or divide your input, as the math operation to be performed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16236\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ai-math-setup-task.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you type a number in the input fields, click on <strong>Use \u2018x\u2019<\/strong> from the dropdown displayed, as shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16237\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ai-math-manual-input.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> For your AI tasks to run successfully, all your input fields need to be in tasks preceding your AI tasks.<\/p>\n<h3>Output field<\/h3>\n<p>The output field is the form field where the AI Math Operator will populate a response. This field will be in a task that\u2019s typically after the AI task.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16238\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ai-math-output-field.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Form fields that can be selected as output fields for your math operations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#short-text-field\">Short text field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#long-text-field\">Long text field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#email-field\">Email field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#website-field\">Website field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#number-field\">Number field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/form-fields\/#hidden-field\">Hidden field<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/docs\/getting-started-using-the-send-email-widget\/\">Send email widget<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Select unique form fields as the output fields for each AI task you create, to avoid overriding your data.<\/p>\n<h3>Setting task permissions<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screen-Cast-2025-08-04-at-4.19.51-PM.gif\" alt=\"AI task task permissions\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"212\" data-end=\"484\">Use the <strong>lock icon<\/strong> in the Workflow editor to set task-level visibility. Since these tasks don\u2019t require user action, only \u201cView\u201d and \u201cNo Access\u201d permissions apply.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"486\" data-end=\"643\">What happens when you hide a task? It still runs. Behind the scenes, your Code or AI step will trigger when the prior task is checked, even if no one sees it.<\/p>\n<p>When you\u2019re done editing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/publish-and-run\/\">publish and run<\/a> your workflow and start filling out the details in your input form fields.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a partially set up AI task, you will see a warning sign preventing you from publishing your workflow, as shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16240\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ai-math-error.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Complete the task before the AI task to triggers it, then watch as your calculations are done for you.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16234\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/help\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ai-math-run.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In an active run, if you want to recalculate your responses, uncheck the task before the AI task, adjust your inputs, and mark your task complete again.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to calculate percentages using the AI Math Operator, add two AI tasks. Create the first AI math task to calculate the number post applying the percentage.
