How to Salvage your Business from a Deep Freeze

Deep Freeze 1

Much of North Eastern America is facing a brutal start to 2014. Snowstorms are sweeping through many northern states causing chaos and disruption as they go; cancelling 1000’s of flights and blocking roads as temperatures plummet to bone-chilling lows. If you run a business, you could find yourself badly affected and the costs could be racking up quickly.

In a world of technology, complex business procedures and overseas outsourcing it is common for a lot of business owners, managers, CEOs and team leaders to find themselves feeling lost in a snowstorm of their own. Maybe mistakes are happening regularly, it could be that pressures are mounting as sales drop and perhaps customers are even being sent the wrong products as a result. To cut it short, the business can start to fall apart. Of course, this is a nightmare situation for any business and if you are starting to feel the pressure; creating processes could be the answer you are looking for.

Here is why creating detailed processes for your business will help melt the ice:

Don’t get snowed in – Definition is clarity
If you’re struggling to clear the snow from your door then you need to start defining the tasks in the business by creating processes for them.
Start adding the basic steps to get a perspective over every task. Simply by creating the processes and giving definition to what happens in the business you will gain an insight on how improvements can be made.

When it’s too cold to handle – Let someone else take the pressure off
If you’re feeling overloaded and stressed by an ever increasing workload then delegating to somebody else could be the secret to keeping your head above water. Processes make this easy as they allow you to “dump” the tasks from your brain into an easy to follow step-by-step guide. Now you can rest assured, safe in the knowledge that task is being handled.

Avoid a disaster – Train your team

Regular training is essential for a growing team to ensure that they are well equipped to deal with every situation – good or bad. Think of everything. Create processes that enable your team to maintain the qualities and standards that you have set for your business to allow you to sell more and keep your customers happy. But also create a plan should the worst happen.

Over time, as you develop your process portfolio you will naturally find ways to make improvements and optimizations that will enable more efficient business and allow you to grow the company further. Your team will also begin to find ways to maximize efficiency themselves; in fact, you should encourage them to.

Avoid the deep freeze this winter and start creating processes for your business today.
