Only 11.5% cited this as their top challenge. Sinclair\u2019s no-show rate decreased from <a href=\"http:\/\/nytimes.com\/1997\/10\/15\/dining\/in-war-against-no-shows-restaurants-get-tougher.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">30% to 10%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This example proves you should be deliberate about your word choice. If you truly want to embrace inbound selling (and the success that comes with it), replace these seven old-school sales terms with more buyer-friendly language.<\/p>\n<h5>1) \u201cLead\u201d=&nbsp;dehumanizing<\/h5>\n<p>Here are some alternatives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cPotential customer\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cProspective partner\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cFuture client\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cPossible collaborator\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cInterested buyer\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCompany\/person we\u2019re considering doing business with\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>2) \u201cSales rep\u201d = less important<\/h5>\n<p>\u201csalesperson,\u201d \u201cadvisor,\u201d \u201cconsultant,\u201d or \u201c[product type] expert.\u201d<\/p>\n<h5>3) \u201cSales Pitch\u201d =&nbsp;\u201cShow up and throw up\u201d doesn\u2019t work.<\/h5>\n<p>Frequently asking questions and actually listening to the answers, then asking follow-up questions or tailoring your points accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSales pitch\u201d describes the one-way, seller-focused presentation of the past. modern salespeople use \u201c<strong>conversation<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<h5>4) \u201cNegotiation\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>Don\u2019t walk into a negotiation with the mindset that your prospective client is your opponent. Effective negotiators think of the other participants as their allies.<\/p>\n<p>Walk out happy. And remember, the relationship isn\u2019t over when they sign the contract -- your ability to retain and\/or upsell them depends on their long-term satisfaction.<\/p>\n<h5>5) \u201cSales Process\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>Interactions with prospects should be collaborative and consultative. You are working together to create a custom solution to their problem, not rigidly forcing them through a series of steps.<\/p>\n<p>prefer \u201cbuyer\u2019s journey\u201d or \u201cbuying process\u201d.&nbsp;The latter doesn\u2019t accurately describe how you and the buyer go from an initial conversation to an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, \u201csales process\u201d implies you are the only one driving the relationship forward. Although you should be in control, your prospect should have agency as well.<\/p>\n<h5>6) \u201cValue Proposition\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>\u201cvalue prop\u201d assumes all of your buyers will see the same value.<\/p>\n<p>figure out how each customer can use the offering to its fullest potential.<\/p>\n<h5>7) \u201cBudget\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>Replace \u201cbudget\u201d with \u201cability to buy.\u201d The second concept is far less restrictive. While people normally come up with their current budget based on last year\u2019s budget, their ability to buy depends on the issues or opportunities they\u2019re seeing.<\/p>\n<p>Next time you\u2019re discussing the financial details of a deal with a prospective client, say <em>\u201cWhat\u2019s your ability to buy X?\u201d<\/em> instead of <em>\u201cWhat\u2019s your budget?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"image-content\">\n<figure>\n   <a href=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/templates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/k_z0JGjVWpIycPYcqe5EEw.png\" alt=\"Words redefined DEALS and Sales STRATEGY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.process.st\/templates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/k_z0JGjVWpIycPYcqe5EEw.png\" \/> <\/a><br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"text-content\">\n<h5>Consumers Dislike \u201cNew\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>you may not want to use <em>\u201ccutting-edge,\u201d \u201cgroundbreaking,\u201d \u201cinnovative,\u201d <\/em>or<em> \u201crevolutionary\u201d<\/em> to describe your products or use novelty to generate excitement in buyers.<\/p>\n<p>The new flavors were less popular among participants whose desire for control had been experimentally increased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis shows that desire for control can act as a barrier to new product acceptance,\u201d the researchers explain.<\/p>\n<p>You can also infer their aversion to newness from the way they describe their own product and company. If they\u2019re excited about a new strategy, product launch, strategic shift, recent executive hire, and so on, there\u2019s a strong chance <em>NOVELTY<\/em>&nbsp;excites them.<\/p>\n<p>But if they talk about their organization\u2019s rock-solid reputation, longevity, dependability, and best-in-class support, you\u2019re probably speaking with a <em>RISK-AVERSE<\/em>&nbsp;prospect.<\/p>\n<p>The buyer\u2019s recent purchases offer clues as well. <strong>ASK<\/strong>, <em>\u201cWhat\u2019s the last product you bought [in this category, of this size, for this goal]?\u201d<\/em> Follow up with, <em>\u201cWhy did you buy that?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Their answer will indicate whether they want to be as current as possible or stick to solutions they\u2019re already familiar with.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;If you\u2019re working with a prospect who finds <strong>NOVELTY APPEALING<\/strong>, you might say, <em>\u201cOur tool will transform your sales and marketing strategy. You\u2019ll be able to predict your audience\u2019s behavior with uncanny accuracy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, if you\u2019re working with a <strong>RISK-AVERSE PROSPECT<\/strong>, you\u2019d say instead, <em>\u201cOur tool helps you avoid major sales and marketing blunders by giving you near-perfect predictions of what they\u2019ll like and how they\u2019ll respond.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Version #1: \u201c<\/strong><em>Traditional leadership training programs are ineffective.
