Mediastinoscopy Procedure

Consult patient's history and existing conditions

Secure consent for the procedure from the patient

Standard pre-operative preparations including NPO status
4
Administer preoperative medications as required
5
Patient to be positioned in supine position with a roll under the shoulder blades
6
Administer general anesthesia or sedation as needed
7
Sanitize the region of the neck
8
Make a small incision at the base of the neck
9
Insert endoscope in-between the sternum and heart
10
Use the scope to visualize and examine the mediastinum
11
Collect sample tissues for biopsy as required
12
Withdraw the endoscope
13
Suture and dress the incision site
14
Monitor patient in recovery room post procedure
15
Approval: Pathologist for biopsy results
16
Communicate biopsy results to the patient and family
17
Plan for further treatment based on biopsy results
18
Schedule follow-up consultations
19
Document the procedure and findings in the patient's medical records
