Treadmill Stress Test Protocol

Check patient's medical history

Obtain informed consent

Patients preparation: Avoid meals, smoking and caffeine before the test

Place electrodes on the chest
5
Connect leads to the EKG machine
6
Baseline EKG and blood pressure measurement
7
Start treadmill at lowest speed and inclination
8
Increase intensity periodically
9
Record EKG and blood pressure measurements

Monitor patient response and discomfort

Approval: Cardiologist on interpreting electrocardiogram during test

Notify the cardiologist if any abnormality is observed
13
Stop the test when the target heart rate is achieved or the patient can't tolerate anymore
14
Recovery monitoring: Record EKG and blood pressure until they return to baseline

Remove all EKG electrodes
16
Report any post-test symptoms or discomfort
17
Approval: Physician on test results
18
Discharge patient with specific instructions
