This is a collection of video tutorials showing how to set up, organize, reamp, and prep a mixing session for 456 Recordings

This contains the bulk of the training for mix setup. This is long as fuck, so I suggest watching at 1.5x speed. Once you've been through this 1 time, you should only need to reference back to it from time to time as a refresher or for clarification.

Check the "Shit" folder for the session files.

Save session as "Setup 1" inside of a new folder labeled "Gold"

Things to watch out for:

Drums may contain addition tracks with no corresponding template file (example: kick out mic).

simply import it into the session on a new track

change track color to match similar tracks (in the example of kick out mic, yellow)

set the output of the track to the appropriate aux (in this example, Kick Bus)

in this video example, There are 6 lead tracks, but the session only has 4 lead track and 4 DI tracks

it's up to you to duplicate the track necessary to import all 6 di tracks for reamping

In session with multiple songs, sometimes producers send a separate set of vocal tracks for each song

it's your job to consolidate all of those down to 1 set of tracks

for example "song 1 main, song 2 main, song 3 main, song 4 main" would alllll be cut and dragged onto "main vox 1" instead of being on 4 separate tracks

Things to note:

Start with kick, then snare, then toms 1, 2, 3, etc.

when working with multiple mics of the same source, use the cleanest signal with the least bleed

Make sure all midi is at c-2 (that's c negative 2)

make sure all midi is lined up with the shells
13

Be sure to "forget" the "learn" data when switching and analyzing new shells

Humanize drum MIDI velocities

Turn down or mute other mix elements (so you can hear the drums better)

59:45 - when dealing with quite/dynamic/fast drum parts, you need to manually add the midi in

snare flams should always be at 127 velocity

Save session as "Reamp test 1"

If the session is more than 3 songs, only reamp 1 song for bass and guitar.

Try to pick the song with as many tones as possible (lead, rhythm, clean, etc).

Once the reamp test has been done, save the session and notify me.

Wait for my "OK" before reamping the remaining songs.

Reamp Bass

Start with the bass tone settings in this image

feel free to adjust the tone as needed, using your best judgement

reamp this same tone to both the "sub bass" and "grit bass" tracks simultaneously

Reamp Rhythm guitar

Select the appropriate Kemper tone based off our conversations

adjust gain as needed for each project
3

Use these settings for your distortion pedal (adjust if needed)

drive: 9 oclock

tone: noon
6

level: 1 oclock

Reamp Lead Guitar

1

Same tone as rhythm, except adjust gain as needed

if necessary, increase mids slightly
3

be sure to keep track of what has and has not been reamped (things can get confusing on sessions with tons of leads)

Reamp Clean Guitar

Use kemper tone I specify

no distortion pedal

Reamp Low Gain guitar

1

If any "low gain" tracks are specified, use the apropriate kemper tone
2

I typically use no distortion pedal, but sometimes my Fulltone OCD is nice with low gain

Save session as "Automation"
