Intro

This walkthrough will help guide you through the financial aid process.

The steps will be listed on the left side and instructions on the right. Once you have completed a step you may click on the next step to continue the process. 

There will be clickable links highlighted in blue to help you navigate to the various websites you will need to complete the applications and documents for financial aid.

Apply for a PIN at Pin.ed.gov

The first step for the prospective student is to apply for a PIN at Pin.ed.gov. The PIN will be used to log in to and sign the FAFSA and other loan documents. 

Things you will need:

To complete this process you will need your Social Security Number, mailing address, and an email address. 

If you have never applied for a PIN before you will proceed by clicking "Apply Now"

If you have have applied before and already have a pin, then you will "Request a Duplicate PIN" by clicking that option from the menu on the left. 

Either option will bring you to a form you must fill out to complete your application or request. Once your personal information is entered you will be asked how you would like to get your PIN. Choose "Display Now"

This four digit PIN will be used on other loan documents so remember it or keep it handy while you finish this process. 

Complete a FAFSA at Fafsa.ed.gov

After receiving our PIN, the next step is to complete the FAFSA at Fafsa.ed.gov

All prospective students must complete a FAFSA for financial aid eligibility. If you have not already submitted a FAFSA for the current award year, then you must start a new FAFSA or login as a returning user. 

When you get to the School Selection page of the FAFSA you should add our school to the list by searching by city/state and name or by entering our school code, 014752

To complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you will need:

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
  • Your most recent federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
  • Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
  • Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
  • A Federal Student Aid PIN to sign electronically. (If you do not already have one, visit www.pin.ed.gov to obtain one.)

If you are a dependent student, then you will also need most of the above information for your parent(s).

If you have any difficulties filling out the information on the FAFSA, you may visit the FAFSA Help Page or contact a representative at Bene's directly.

Once you have completed and submitted the application. You may move on to the next step of the process. Keep in mind that the results of the FAFSA will take 3 business days to be returned. As long as you entered for our school to be notified, we will receive the results at that time. 

Log into StudentLoans.gov

Prospective students can navigate back to StudentLoans.gov to sign in.

After clicking the Sign In button, they will be asked to log in with their personal information and PIN that they received earlier. 

Complete Loan Entrance Counseling

After clicking Complete Counseling, prospects will select to Start the Entrance Counseling

The first step will have you add schools you would like to notify. Once you have selected the "School State" and "School Name", you must click "Notify this school"

Under "Select Student Type" you will select completing as an undergraduate in less you currently have a bachelor's degree.

The Loan Entrance Counseling will require you to answer questions based on the information given. Be sure to complete all of the "Check Your Knowledge" blocks, Exercises with a Step 1 and 2, and that you

Once you complete the Entrance Counseling, the confirmation page can be saved or printed 

If using the chromebook in our office, follow the instructions below.

Documents can be saved directly to your student file. Press Ctrl + P or navigate the options menu in the upper right and select print.

This will bring up the print preview and destination options

On the left, the destination should be set to "Save to Google Drive" and read "[email protected]" underneath.

If this is not the current destination then you must click the Change.. button to set the destination. In the popup menu, you will select "Save to Google Drive" under the "Google Cloud Print" options. 

After you have made sure the document is being sent to the right destination, you can hit "Save"

When the document is saved or printed you can click My Account in the upper left to return to the main menu and proceed to the next step.

Complete Master Promissory Note

Once back at the main menu, you can now select "Complete Master Promissory Note".

 

Things you will need:

Drivers License information

Permanent Address

Email Address

Two References (two persons with different U.S. addresses who do not live with you and who have known you for at least three years. If you are a parent borrower, do not list the student.)

  • List adults with different U.S. addresses who have known you for at least three years.
  • The first reference should be a parent or legal guardian.
  • References must have different addresses and telephone numbers.
  • If the reference does not have a telephone number, enter N/A.

 

Once you click "Complete Master Promissory Note" a new list of options will appear asking you to select what type of direct loan you would like to receive. Select "Subsidized/Unsubsidized" from the list to proceed.

On the following page you will enter personal information including; Driver's License Number, Address, Telephone, and Email. Following your information will be School Information, where you will select our school again to be notified. Once all of the information is filled out, you may continue.

On the following page you will list two persons with different U.S. addresses who do not live with you and who have known you for at least three years. If you are a parent borrower, do not list the student. Once you have listed two references that meet the requirements, you may continue.

On this page you will need to click the + signs to expand and read each section. To move on you will need to check the box that you have reviewed this information and then Continue. 

A pop up of your completed application will appear for you to review. Once you have done so, you submit the full and completed application. Once submitted you will have the option to view a printable copy

Click the link to view a printable copy. It will download pdf copy of the application you submitted. 

When it has downloaded you can click on that pdf to view it. 

Just as before with the Loan Entrance Counseling, we will print a copy of this document to your student file. Though, you may also print a copy at this point for your own records.

Outro

If the FAFSA, Loan Entrance Counseling, and Master Promissory Note are all completed, then you have finished all of the financial aid documents and applications we require. If completing these documents in our office, please let a representative know that you are finished. 

 

Remember it will take up to three business days to process the FAFSA application. 

 

If completing these documents at home, please notify our financial aid office that these documents and applications are completed.
