Cloning an existing Trellis-based repo

Choose your workspace folder

Clone the repository

Add project to your IDE

Install Composer requirements

install vagrant reqs

Install theme dependencies

Boot up the vagrant server

Importing the Database:

Enable the WP Migrate DB Pro & WP Migrate DB Pro Media Files plugins

Add the license key (available in LastPass) by clicking on the 'enter license key' link that will appear after activation of the plugins

Ensure 'Accept pull requests allow this database to be exported and downloaded' is checked

Copy the URL in the 'Connection Info' box to your clipboard

Click on the 'Pull' radio button, and then paste in the connection info from the previous step

Check the following settings are configured

Click 'Migrate and Save Profile'

Choose your workspace folder

Try and create your main workspace (where all of your Vagrant-based projects will reside) in ~/

The only other requirement is to avoid spaces in the directory path, as this will cause issues during provisioning.

Example:

mkdir ~/Workplace/projectname && cd ~/Workplace/projectname

mkdir projectname.com && cd projectname.com

Clone the repository

Example:

git clone [email protected]:smarter/repo.git .

Make sure you have an account on Github and your ssh key is added to the account.

Add project to your IDE

Install Composer requirements

cd projectname/site && composer install

install vagrant reqs

cd ../trellis/ && ansible-galaxy install -r requirements.yml

Install theme dependencies

cd ../site/web/app/themes/projectname

npm install

bower install

gulp

Boot up the vagrant server

cd ../../../../..

vagrant up

You can reach your site on the dev_url configured intrellis/group_vars/development/wordpress_sites.yml file under site_hosts.

You can use the gulp watch command to watch your changes instantly

cd site/web/app/themes/projectname

gulp watch

Importing the Database:

Log in to your new local WP site

via wp-admin (http://projectname.com/wp/wp-admin)

Enable the WP Migrate DB Pro & WP Migrate DB Pro Media Files plugins

Log in to the staging server via wp-admin, and visit Tools > Migrate DB Pro and click the 'Settings' tab

Ensure 'Accept pull requests allow this database to be exported and downloaded' is checked

Copy the URL in the 'Connection Info' box to your clipboard

Log in to your local development server

via wp-admin, and visit Tools > Migrate DB Pro and ensure you're on the 'Migrate' tab

Click on the 'Pull' radio button, and then paste in the connection info from the previous step

Check the following settings are configured

Backup the local database before replacing it (Backup all tables)

Media Files (Compare then download)

Save Migration Profile

Click 'Migrate and Save Profile'
