We are delighted that you have accepted our offer to work at Hatch Canada!

This take-home training is meant to help you get comfortable working with our systems and policies! We estimate it will take you roughly 10-12 hours to complete the necessary training on your own. Please be aware this entire checklist should be completed within a week after it is received. It can be done in any order, and certain aspects of the training may not be able to be completed until closer to your orientation training date. If you don't know if you should be able to complete something or not, feel free to contact [email protected] !

Hatch Canada has an accommodation process in place and provides accommodations for employees with disabilities. If you require a specific accommodation because of a disability or a medical need, please let me know so that arrangements can be made for the appropriate accommodations to be in place before you begin your employment.

Where should we begin? Contracts, Vulnerable Sector Checks, Training and more!

Please be aware that these contracts may be out of date and new versions of the contract may be distributed closer to your orientation date. These are for reference only and may not be the exact contract we ask you to sign at orientation. If the contracts do change, you will be provided an updated copy to review prior to orientation.

We require all of our coaches to have a clear, current vulnerable sector check to work in our classrooms. 

If you have a vulnerable sector check that will be valid until at least May 2017, please be prepared to bring it with you to orientation. Please note that we need to keep the original document in our Toronto centre and that we cannot accept copies.

If you do not currently have a vulnerable sector check, please file one as soon as possible, as they can take many weeks to process depending on your location.

Information on how to file a Vulnerable Sector Check for your location is detailed in the Vulnerable Sector Check document below. Please note that if you live in Toronto, you’ll have to come by the Toronto Hatch Centre (3202 Yonge Street) to pick up a signed copy of the form to bring to the police station.

If you live in the York Region, you do not have to pick up a signed form from the Toronto office. Please follow these instructions from the York Regional Police: https://www.yrp.ca/en/services/vulnerable-sector-check.asp

Hatch Canada will reimburse you for half the cost of a vulnerable sector check. In order to do so, the company requires that you bring a copy of the receipt to your orientation session. Hatch will be unable to share the cost of an expedited vulnerable sector check if you do not retain the receipt. 

Be aware that you are entitled to 5 copies of your vulnerable sector check for free, please retain a couple extra copies as we will require the original for our records. You will need to bring a copy with you to every classroom shift you attend.

Training will take place at:

It is accessible by TTC by taking the Subway or Bus to Lawrence Station.

If you are driving, I just wanted to let all of you know that all unsigned street parking in Toronto does have a 3-hour parking limit. This does seem to be enforced in the streets around the Toronto Centre.

Ottawa Training

You will be send an email with the specifics of your training as soon as we have details! Please hang tight until then!

We are interested in bringing you into shadow one of our classrooms with some of our experienced coaches! This is a great opportunity for you to be able to see how a classroom should be run and experience working with students in a low-stress environment.

Please feel free to attend your Shadow Session in any location, though it would probably be most beneficial for you to attend your Shadow Session in the location that is closest to you so that you can see the center you will most likely be interacting with.

We recommend you change your password by clicking the “Account” button in the top right when you first log on.

A Javascript training course will be included in Training / Orientation. For now, start with the project “Hold A Ball” and experiment with changing numbers and modifying completed projects to try to fully understand what each line of code does. It is very important that you feel comfortable with the website. Explore the system and please come to orientation with any questions you may have.

As part of the Hatch team, you get your own Hatch email address! To access your email, please navigate to www.accounts.google.com and log in with the following credentials:

This email is where all work-related emails will be sent so it is important that you check in on a regular basis. Please also be aware that this is a professional email and should not be used for personal use.

Please ensure that the take-home training is completed prior to your Orientation Date.

Please note that you will be paid minimum wage ($11.40) for all training hours. That includes all hours spent on:

• Javascript Training (~6 hours)
• The Coach Handbook Quiz (~3 hours)
• HR Downloads Training (~2 hours)
• Your Shadow Session (~2 hours)
• In-Person Orientation (~8 hours)

The hours spent on your training and orientation should total to roughly 21 hours. These hours will be paid out on your first paycheck.

You will be paid for up to 6 hours of work to complete this training

Because we value self-paced learning at Hatch, we’re asking you to read through the employee handbook on your own so that you can absorb the information in a way that works for you. This document contains many important ideas including Hatch policies and practises and we do expect you to follow the guidelines set in the manual while teaching in a Hatch Classroom. In order to assure that you have read the document and are comfortable with the ideas presented in it, we have created a supplementary "quiz" that asks questions challenging you to think critically about the ideas presented in the handbook.

Please make sure to complete this quiz prior to your training session.

Please also be aware that you must be signed in to your Hatch account to access this document.

You will be paid for up to 3 hours of work to read through the manual and complete the quiz.

You are required to complete Government of Ontario Accessibility training.

You must score at least 70% in each quiz to pass.

Please complete this training prior to your orientation date!

You will be paid for up to 2 hours of work to watch these videos and complete the appropriate quizzes. 

Some things to keep in mind during your shadow session:

• The coaches are there to help you! Ask them any questions you have (but please let understand if they make you wait so that they can help a student first!)
• Feel free to talk to the students! Ask them what they're working on! They'll be happy to tell you!
• Try answering some student's questions. If you don't know the answer, it's totally okay to call another coach over for help! If you give it a shot though, you might surprise yourself with how much you know!

This is a questionnaire for you to fill out directly after your shadow session. It is meant to help you think critically about the class you have just witnessed and solidify the knowledge you've gained from the experience.

Please bring the Original Copy of your clear vulnerable sector check with you to orientation

Please also remember to bring your receipt with you, as Hatch will reimburse half the amount of your vulnerable sector check.

Please ensure that you have reviewed these documents prior to the day of orientation so that you can seek legal counsel if you want. We will review the documents together during Orientation at which time you will sign and date them.
