Pending Requests Spreadsheet

We are looking for individuals who have been added by administrators. We can quickly approve these requests and add their names to the list of people who have been "added, but not yet welcomed" in Pending Requests Spreadsheet (step 6)

Current List of Admins:

Anyone added to the group by Binkey, Paris and Ariel will automatically be approved.

In Pending Requests Spreadsheet:

Find the name of the person who is at the bottom of the "Contacted" List.

Find this individual within the FB pending requests list.. You will start from the next person above and make your way up the list (as much as you're able 🙂 )

If you can determine that the new applicant is OR is not a Traveler of Color by going to their FB profile, then skip to Step 6.

A Traveler of Color - someone who identifies as a POC who is living or traveling outside of their country of origin (or intends to)

If you cannot determine whether the applicant is a Traveler of Color, then you will need to reach out to them and start the conversation based on what you know:

For example, I usually say:

"Hi (insert name)! I'm with BlackPackers International 🙂

Glad you've found our group! OR Glad (insert name) added you to our group!

(Optional) Do you identify as a person of color?

(Optional) Are you either living or planning a trip abroad?"

Then, you will add the person's name to the "Contacted" List in Pending Requests Spreadsheet, along with the current date and your initials.

Time to look at the next person! Repeat as many times as you are able!

For those older names in the "Contacted" list which have been contacted only once, we will reach out to them one more time after two weeks have past.

I usually say:

"Hi again.. Reaching out a second time just to make sure you meet the requirements to participate in our community. Are you living or planning a trip abroad?"

Then, you will please add the date of your contact in the appropriate column along with your initials. Please mark the name red.

Repeat as many times as you are able!

Once you approve a request, please add their name to the "added, but not yet welcomed" list in Pending Requests Spreadsheet

If you decline a request after starting a conversation with them, please let them know kindly. Please delete their information from the spreadsheet.

Once the list of "added, but not yet welcomed" reaches about twenty, it's time to welcome the batch to the FB group.

I usually say:

"Hey Everyone! Please welcome our new members!!

(list members: e.g. @Ariel Zuniga so that it tags them)

Y'all also want to check out the info tab up top and read our mission statement and code of conduct. Please also send me or Crystal the following information for our directory and so you can receive our newsletter:

- email

- birthday

- instagram account, website, etc.

- niche (what type of work do you do!)

Now, you can delete the names that you have welcomed from the spreadsheet.
