Equipment & Setup Checklist

Your child will need to do the workshop on a computer. This could be:

• Desktop or laptop computer
• Mac or PC

Is an ipad or tablet ok?

No, unfortunately an ipad or tablet is not sufficient to do the workshop. 

Your computer will need to be connected to a good internet connection.

Is my internet fast enough?

It doesn't need to be NBN speeds - just a good, normal ADSL connection will do fine. If you are concerned about your speed, run the speed test below

How to check your connection speed

1. Go to http://www.speedtest.net/
2. Click 'begin test' button
3. Once the test has run, click the 'share result' button

4. Copy the URL of your results and email it to [email protected]

Your child will need some kind of microphone attached to their computer, so they can talk to their teacher and classmates.

Options include:

• Built-in microphone (i.e. a microphone that is built into the computer)
• External microphone attached to computer
• Earphones with a microphone
• Headset with a microphone

Your child will need to use the Google Chrome web browser to join the virtual classroom and write his/her code on the day. 

How to install Google Chrome

1. Click here to visit the download page
2. Click the 'Download Chrome' button
3. Follow the installation instructions

ATTN WINDOWS 10 USERS: If you already have Minecraft on your Windows 10 computer, chances are you have a different version called 'Minecraft Windows 10 Edition' installed. You need to have 'Minecraft For PC: Java Edition' installed to do the workshop. Please follow the instructions below to install this, and login with your existing Minecraft account that you use on the Windows 10 edition.

Download 'Minecraft for Mac/PC: Java Edition' and follow the installation instructions:

• If you are on Mac, click here to download 'Minecraft for Mac: Java Edition'.
• If you are on a PC running Windows, click here to download 'Minecraft For PC: Java Edition'.

Purchase a Mojang Account

To use Minecraft on the computer, you'll need an account. If you don't have one already:

• Sign up & buy an account at Minecraft.net
• Record your child's username and password somewhere, so they can easily log into their account on the day.

Troubleshooting

I can't purchase a Minecraft account! The website won't let me pay.

If you run into problems paying for a Minecraft account, you can get around it by purchasing a gift-code for yourself and redeeming it straight away:

1. Go to https://account.mojang.com/buy/minecraft?agent=minecraft and sign in (or sign up).
2. Buy a giftcode for Minecraft for Mac or Minecraft for PC, and choose to email the giftcode to yourself.
3. In the email you receive, click the link to redeem the giftcode. Remember to pick a username that your child will like!
