Fairwinds Technologies was founded by leaders from the Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial technology space. The goal of Fairwinds Technologies was to combine the best of both backgrounds and bring the latest in commercial technologies to the military.
But as a new company, they realized that their procedures and processes were underdeveloped. That’s when they enlisted the help of Process Street to ensure they didn’t run into bigger operational problems later down the line.
In this post, I’m taking you through how Fairwinds Technologies uses Process Street to build out processes and assign ownership to their work by looking at:
- The challenge
- The solution
- The results
Let’s get started.
The challenge
As a new company, Fairwinds Technologies’ biggest challenge was underdeveloped processes and procedures.
Like with any newly-formed business, this posed as a problem because Fairwinds Technologies suffered a lack of clarity. That made it difficult to clearly communicate expectations with their employees
“We had several processes that we needed to define more clearly and add ownership to individual task.” – Raye Ragan, Fairwinds Technologies’ Director of Operations
And when there’s a lack of clarity, work becomes inefficient because employees send more time figuring out how to complete a task than actually doing it. Not to mention, this lack of ownership led to Fairwinds Technologies’ employees feeling overwhelmed by their workload.
Now those were the current challenges, but underdeveloped processes also cause a massive hiccup later down the line. Even though Fairwinds Technologies might not have planned to scale in the future, it would have been problematic when they ultimately decided the time was right to do so.
That’s because maintaining consistent operations while growing an organization becomes difficult when there aren’t any established processes and procedures.
So with these current and future challenges laid out in front of them, the team at Fairwinds Technologies knew they needed to find a way to document their operations. That’s when Process Street came into the picture.
The solution
To address Fairwinds Technologies underdeveloped processes, the team turned to Process Street as their process management system.
With the help of Process Street’s Solutions Consulting, Fairwinds Technologies’ key personnel gained training on how to build workflows and streamline the process.
One of the biggest issues of implementing a new process into an organization, is resistance from employees. This was no different for the team at Fairwinds Technology.
“While implementation was met with some resistance within our company, we were able to easily overcome this resistance because the workflows are very user friendly.” – Raye Ragan
The team’s process and procedures were documented inside Process Street for added clarity while the role assignment feature was applied to assess the team’s concerns around ownership.
“Process Street allowed us to assign ownership without overloading any one employee. We were able to streamline processes while providing oversight to easily see where something was in the process.” – Raye Ragan
The results
Process Steet’s reporting capabilities were appreciated immediately by the team, as they were better able to track processes without having to constantly follow-up with responsibility parties involved in task completion.
But besides the easy transparency and tracking, the team at Fairwinds Technologies have found that the processes built into Process Street work as a go-to resource to reference and obtain from previously run workflows.
“Process Street has become our go-to solution since implementing the workflows into our daily work life.” – Raye Ragan
More importantly, documenting these processes inside Process Street has created an ease of use that’s drastically reduced the stress those employees feel for that portion of their job.
“It’s for these reasons that Process Street has become a go-to tool for work requiring consistent oversight, collaboration throughout the company, or scheduled reminders.”
Our solution is powered by AWS and uses these AWS services: Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, S3, CloudFront, Elastic Beanstalk, WAF, ELB, RDS Multi-AZ, EC2 and ElastiCache for Redis.
