How Renegard Uses Process Street to Improve Productivity, Quality Control and Employee Onboarding

Renegard uses Process Street to enable manual, on-the-ground workers to execute tasks more efficiently and enable their managers to oversee all activity in real-time. They also use process automation to streamline the hiring and onboarding process. We spoke to their CEO, David Martin, about how they are using Process Street, what benefits they are experiencing, and how Renegard sees their usage of the platform progressing in the future.

The Renegard Story

From pickup trucks to boats and large-scale construction equipment, Renegard provides its customers with high-performance protective coating for a range of vehicles.

Ultimately, their mission is to help you get the most out of your vehicle by applying coatings that are guaranteed to protect it from wear and tear as well as more significant damage.

Their two trademarked products, Alphagard and Solargard, are extremely tough coatings that can be used for both interior and exterior applications. They are available in a variety of colors and can be custom color matched.

Given that they apply their coatings to vehicles all across the US, Renegard employs a large number of contractors to perform the manual-intensive work. These individuals need to follow strict processes in order to ensure that coatings are applied in the proper way each and every time.

There are a lot of steps involved in applying a coating. Making sure that manual workers are completing each one is essential to consistently delivering a high-quality service to all customers.

Challenge

Since it was founded in 2016, Renegard has been growing fast, applying their protective coatings to vehicles throughout their home state of Texas as well as other states in the surrounding area.

To meet consumer demand, they need a large pool of skilled labor that can be on-site and perform the job in a way that is efficient and meets strict quality standards.

According to David, one of Renegard’s biggest challenges is “finding good hourly labor”.

They receive a ton of job applications from contractors but need a robust screening process to ensure that only qualified and trustworthy individuals are selected to represent their company.

Beyond the screening process, David was looking for a way to establish quality control standards throughout the organization. He wanted to know that each job was being completed properly and each worker was accountable for their performance.

Before using Process Street, this was an inefficient, time-consuming process because managers had to directly communicate with workers to receive updates. There was no way of centralizing information and tracking progress in real-time.

Enhancing performance with Process Street

Renegard’s managerial team created a comprehensive 12-point quality control checklist that is to be completed for every vehicle that is serviced. It is the only checklist that manual workers are presented with and required to complete.

David reports that the checklist has been extremely effective in consistently meeting high-quality standards that often exceed customer expectations.

Furthermore, it has motivated workers to perform high-quality work by setting clear guidelines and providing a financial incentive for completing the checklist in full and on time.

Quality control checklists are easily monitored by managers using the template overview feature, which David and his team have found particularly useful:

In terms of the hiring process, Renegard utilizes Process Street integrations to automatically create checklists when an application form has been submitted so that the screening process can begin immediately.

“All information captured in job application forms comes through Zapier into Process Street, beginning a series of hiring checklists”

This not only provides a more seamless experience for the applicants but also enables managers to screen more individuals in less time, helping them to select and onboard qualified workers with greater efficiency.

“Now, all the way from the time guys apply on our website and fill out a job application until their onboarding forms come in, we never have to ask them for the same information twice. Once you give us a piece of information, we just pass it along, pass it along, either through Zapier or forwarding it with Process Street run links”

Results

According to David, internal adoption of the quality control checklist that must be completed for every vehicle has been excellent.

Each worker completes approximately 10 checklists every day.

This has resulted in a far higher level of visibility into performance than was possible before they integrated Process Street. Workers are held accountable for the completion of every task that goes into the job and are recognized for their accomplishments.

In addition, managers are able to quickly identify bottlenecks and opportunities to improve execution by monitoring the progression of checklists in real-time and reviewing them upon completion.

During a recent call with David, he mentioned that he had recently had a conversation with the company’s president, and they said, “You know, the best piece of software we have in this entire company is Process Street”.

We don’t mean to gloat, but that is a pretty awesome statement, and says a lot about how impactful our software can be when it is adopted throughout an organization.

Taking it to the next level

David and the rest of the team at Renegard are committed to getting the most value out of Process Street. The impact it has had so far on hiring, onboarding, productivity, and quality control are significant, and David is planning on adding numerous automation rules to streamline processes even further.

“We live in a golden age of web-based technology that is super powerful and incredibly affordable given its capabilities, but very few small businesses actually take advantage of it because they’re just not predisposed to even think about it. But you look at Process Street, Zapier, WebMerge, all this stuff and I’m like why aren’t more companies taking advantage of it?”
