If you no longer need a member of your team to have Builder privileges, you can demote them to a User.
Admins can demote (or promote) users from the Users page.
What changes when you demote a Builder to a User
The exact effects depend on your plan. On Professional and Enterprise plans (T5K plan track), Users keep more access than on older plans.
Groups
- Professional and Enterprise plans: All group memberships are preserved — both system groups (for example, All Members) and custom groups.
- Other plans: The user is removed from all groups, including custom groups. This cannot be undone.
Workflow assignments
- Professional and Enterprise plans: All existing pre-assignments are preserved. Workflow permits are downgraded to Run access, so the user can still view and run workflows they had access to.
- Other plans: All pre-assignments and workflow permits are deleted entirely.
Running workflows
- Professional and Enterprise plans: The user can still view and run workflows where they have Run access.
- Other plans: The user cannot run workflows.
On all plans
Regardless of your plan, a demoted user:
- Cannot create or edit workflows
- Cannot schedule workflows
Note: On plans where groups and assignments are removed, these changes cannot be recovered. If you later promote the user back to Builder, you need to re-add them to groups and reassign workflows manually.
